Course description:

Sonic Garden Sound Art Workshop The sound art course will explore the semiotics of sounds and experiment with new sound ideas. This workshop will delve into the Estonian sound art scene, as well as provide a general introduction to the history of sonic art and highlight artists from around the world through listening sessions and discussions. You'll also have the opportunity to record sounds in the beautiful national park near the residency, adding a unique dimension to your sonic creations. Whether you have prior experiences or are simply curious about the field, this course offers a focused setting to explore the possibilities of sound as a medium of art.

Sonic Garden is a workshop where you'll learn practical skills on field recording using a range of different recorders, microphones, and techniques. Develop your observational awareness and learn how to listen to an environment in order to create your own unique sonic artwork. Throughout the course, you'll also explore sound post-production techniques, including how to work with digital audio software and handle digital tools such as samplers, synthesizers, modulation, and audio effects. These skills will enable you to produce personal projects for a collective showing.

At the heart of the workshop is the discovery of new audible materials, playing around with multiple sonic ideas in post-production, and creating a unique artistic voice within a finalized work.

Accepted applicants will be required to bring a laptop computer (Mac/PC/Linux) and participate in hiking trips and group discussions. This interdisciplinary workshop is suitable for participants from all disciplines in the fine art and applied art fields. There are no prerequisites for participation, and we welcome anyone with an interest in sound art.

After the course the participants are required to join a follow-up Zoom meeting on the 28th of August.
