The theme for our first International Days is There's a typo in my name.
The topic evolves around language and cultural identity related to the languages we speak and write down using different alphabets. The sentence There is a typo in my name indicates that there was a mistake, an unexpected error that crept into the text when we heard it and tried to notate the sounds with different signs, the same as .id could mean International Days and our id(entity) here at ASP.

Valentyn Odnoviun - a brief presentation called “Image and its Potential.” In it, I would talk about the abstract-like image which can call into question the relation between what we see and what we perceive in advance of the act of recognition and to show that such photographs may emphasise the borders not only of human perception, but the border where the consequences of human action meet reason.The research uses forensic as a tool. The main subject of research oppressive systems and their political prisons in Eastern Europe.
Marcos Mello (online) - My idea is to present part of my portfolio but mainly the process of creation and execution of the type collage I did on the wall of a building in São Paulo with David Carson. I would be available on October 12th within the time slot of the show.

Andrea Vendetti & Elettra Scotucci (online) - The lecture will start with some experiences related to Slab studio, between letterpress printing, education, and safeguard of the Italian typographic heritage. The second part will focus on the ongoing founders’ doctoral researches: mapping historical type catalogs and specimen of wood type manufacturers in Italy, and making new display type for letterpress printing today, both with traditional and more contemporary technologies and processes. - Photography Portfolio Review by Valentyn Odnoviun (dates to be discussed with Valentyn) - Lecturer of Photography, Visual Arts and Art History at the Vilnius Art Academy and European Humanities University. Students can ask Valentyn to review their Photography works.
- Workshop by Golan Gafni on 11.10 12:00 - 20:00 - “Emblems for peace” for students from the visual communication design about Hebrew letters. The workshop will deal with planning and designing new symbols/emblems based on a combination of elements and rules of the Hebrew type and it's dialogue with the Arabic and Latin letters. The workshop will include a lecture, practice and designing the emblems and preparing a presentation of the done work (print or digital). The students will design emblems which aim to reflect the yearning for world peace (symbols which express values like friendship, collaboration, partnership, pluralism, togetherness etc.) This outcome will be very interesting and can be presented in both institutes. Bring your own laptops with Adobe.
- Workshop by Samuel Roux on 12.10 12:00 - 20:00 - The introductory title to press articles is often given particular writing care. It must surprise, attract, catch attention by its redactional impact. Suggestions, allusions, plays on words, hints and various references, this form of writing must seduce, guide but also call on the reader’s imagination and prove to be beyond understanding to the foreigner. On the basis of headlines and miscellaneous local or national news of your choice, we are going to work on the perception of a catch-phrase and the graphic clues the designer can put on top of it to increase reader comfort.The «sign» or «graphic act» used as a legible element at the same level as a typographic one can, by its universality but also by your commitment, humour, and your own graphic vocabulary, give the writer’s message more impact. Non Polish-speaking, I will be the first in need of your expertise. Bring newspapers with you (local or national, not necessarily of the day).
- Workshop by Stephane de Schrevel on 13.10 12:00 - 18:00- Workshop for graphic design students. There is a generally overlooked aspect in typography: the 'sound' of a design, without actually hearing anything externally. The workshop (which will be held in English) will start with an introduction in which sound will be contextualised in the typographic realm. We will try to develop a keen eye for detecting the intrinsic voice of a typeface, and then carry on implementing sound analysis into the design process through a size A3 poster assignment. Bring your own laptops with Adobe.
- The exhibition 𝓣𝓱𝓮𝓻𝓮 𝓲𝓼 𝓪 𝓽𝔂𝓹𝓸 𝓲𝓷 𝓶𝔂 𝓷𝓪𝓶𝓮 accompanies International Erasmus Days, which take place at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw from October 10-16. The exhibition will present posters created by artists from different parts of the world especially for the occasion, as well as works created during the workshops accompanying the event. The themes revolve around cultural identity as expressed through the languages we speak and the signs with which we write them down. The phrase 𝓣𝓱𝓮𝓻𝓮 𝓲𝓼 𝓪 𝓽𝔂𝓹𝓸 𝓲𝓷 𝓶𝔂 𝓷𝓪𝓶𝓮, which is the slogan of International Erasmus Days at ASP, means that there was a mistake, an unexpected error that crept in when we heard it and tried to note down its sounds.

Golan Gafni, Israel, HIT Holon Institute of Technology, Faculty of Design, Visual Communication Department, Typography and Editorial design - Graduate with honours. Graphic designer & founder at Studio Keren and Golan. The studio was founded in 2007, together with Keren Gafni and it specializes in developing creative solutions for cultural projects, focusing on identity, editorial, magazine and exhibition design. Founder, designer and curator of The A5 Magazine - a platform for artists and designers to present their visual interpretations to a chosen theme in each printed issue. Since 2009 teaches typography, editorial design and final project moderator at the Visual Communication Department of the Faculty of Design at HIT - Holon Institute of Technology.

Ruben Dias, Portugal, ESAD Escola Superior de Arte e Design, Typography and type design - Designer, author of various books and design manuals, consultant and scholar specialised in typography, lettering and type design. Currently runs the design studio Itemzero.
Sofia Meira, Portugal, ESAD Escola Superior de Arte e Design, Letterpress - Graduate in Graphic Design, Sofia Meira is responsible for the management of the typography workshop at ESAD Matosinhos. In addition to working at esad—idea, Research in Design and Art, Sofia is also a researcher in the area of Typography and Graphic Design and Director of Production of Porto Design Biennale. She develops research in the area of printing processes with movable type, within the scope of her PhD in Design at the University of Fine Arts of Porto. She is co-author of the book Imprimere and curator of the exhibition by the same name.
Samuel Roux, France, ESAD Orléans, Graphic Design - Graphic designer, living, teaching and working in Orleans, France. I was born in 1963 and I started graphic design studies in the early 80’s, in a particularly free and creative pre-digital period that was amazing in music and pictures fields. Graduating in 1986 from the Orleans visual art institute, I then started working freelance for the cultural and social fields, with in order of preference, poster design and visual identitys. For instance, Jazz festival identity, theater programs, rock summer festivals, symphonic orchestra seasons, information campain for addictions care, scientific exhibitions, human rights meetings ... for local and national institutions, associations or movements, Town Councils or Ministries. Parallel to this activity, I teach graphic design at the Orleans’ ESAD, (Design and Art High School), since 2000. I try to develop student’s critical, the research for ideas, the authenticity for a singular graphic writing, taking special care to the meaning and the ethics which the images can carry. I also participate in international lectures, exchanges and graphic design exhibitions or festivals with students.
Valentyn Odnoviun, Lithuania, European Humanities University Vilnius Faculty, Academic Department of Humanities and Arts, Photography - Lecturer of Photography, Visual Arts and Art History at the Vilnius Art Academy and European Humanities University.
Studied in Lithuania, Poland and Germany. Has MA degrees in Art History and Photography and Media Arts. Currently working on PhD dissertation at the Lithuanian Culture Research Institute. Holds “Artist Creator“ status granted by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania. During the last six years, research has been mainly linked with historical events, oppressive regimes and their political prisons around Europe, through the “abstract”-looking image, working with the viewer’s imagination to create more concrete communication with the help of interpretation and conceptual thinking.

Marcos Mello, Brazil, ESPM Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing (ESPM), Typography - Graphic artist, typographer and letterpress printer. He concluded his studies at Rudolf Steiner, a german school in São Paulo (Waldorfschule) with a course in graphic arts and has a Bachelor's Degree in Visual Arts from Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado (FAAP) and a post-graduation course in Graphic Design from Faculdade Belas Artes de São Paulo. He has a Master's Degree in Education, Art and Culture History from Faculdade Presbiteriana Mackenzie and a Ph.D. in Social History from University of São Paulo (USP). He is currently a Design lecturer at Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing (ESPM). He is a founding partner at Oficina Tipográfica São Paulo, a NGO dedicated to researching brazilian typographic memory, courses and projects in letterpress language. His work in graphic design and visual arts focuses on experimental typography. In his atelier Letterpress Brasil, he develops letterpress and graphic design projects.

Stephane de Schrevel, Belgium, Hogeschool Gent, KASK & Conservatorium / School of Arts , Typography - is a seasoned typographer based in Ghent (BE) specializing in the fields of book design and working for various publishers. Whilst studying Typography at the University of Plymouth (Exeter, UK) he discovered the craft of letterpress, which shaped his personal design process and left its mark on his design approach. In addition to the above he is a lecturer in Typography at KASK / School of Arts (Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Ghent) where he shares his incurable and contagious fascination of letterforms (written, wood, lead and digital). He also has run workshops in his own country and abroad. Stéphane is fond of cats, dislikes justified text and finds it odd to write about himself in the third person.
Beck Howson, England, School of Visual Communication, Birmingham City University, Birmingham Institute of Creative Arts, ADM Typography, Letterpress, Printing - I am a design educator in the school of visual communication. Specialising in Graphic Design, Typography and Letterpress. I am submitting my PhD thesis in October 2022 in experimental letterpress.
Andrea Vendetti & Elettra Scotucci, Italy, Sapienza University of Rome, Architecture – PDTA dep., Letterpress, Graphic Design History, Typography - After graduating from Sapienza University of Rome with a thesis on the clandestine presses of the Italian Resistance, and after a study period at ENSAD in Paris, he graduated from ISIA in Urbino with a thesis on the historiography of graphic design. He is in the final year of his PhD in Design at Sapienza University of Rome: his research consists of a survey on primary sources for the study of the history of wooden typefaces in Italy. He teaches Graphic design and History of printing and publishing at Rufa. He works as a graphic designer with archives and associations and is the co-founder of Slab, a letterpress studio in Rome. Slab is a workshop where teaching and research are carried out in order to safeguard Italian typographic culture, and where workshops, exhibitions and conferences are held. Andrea Vendetti has been an AIAP national councillor since 2022.
Visual Communication and Graphic designer, Elettra Scotucci is in the second year of her Ph.D in Design at Sapienza University of Rome. Her main research topics are Typography and Graphic Design History, and the relationship between Design and New Craft in the particular field of the contemporary production of display typefaces for letterpress printing. Together with his Ph.D. colleague Andrea Vendetti, she runs a letterpress studio in Rome, Slab, which is also a key spot for historical researches, experimentation and educational projects. Currently she is Teaching Assistant to professor Daniele Capo in the Type Design course, both in the English and Italian curricula, at the DCVM master degree, at Sapienza.
